Do you use one? What do you recommend? How much does one cost? How did the installation go?

I like to drive my classics to a restaurant occasionally but am always paranoid about leaving the car unattended. I figure a car alarm, maybe even one with some kind of pager and/or tracking device should be of some help.
Your ideas are appreciated!

Lots of options to chose from... I install Viper in my shop. Seems to be a good product. If you want a 2-way (pager style) expect to pay around $300 and up (installed, for Viper). Ill be putting a simple 1-way regular style alarm in my vette when i get the time. Keyless entry, starter kill and a shock sensor. Not too bad to install it yourself, or you can make the drive up north and Ill help you out :drink:

As usual, I go against the grain.....being in home remodeling, I got hands on a ton of old garage door openers....so took the receiver panels from the old Sears chain drive units, and left over remotes....

used one of them to activate a self latching relay in my vette, that kills the 5 volt and fuel pump function on the engine computer, but not the memory, that comes off the injector + wiring....always live....

I don't even bother with door lock removed when I messed up the paint job, and not even active inside, anymore.....my convertible can't be locked, as in why bother??

so to activate a garage door remote to key the relay into latch mode, and enable the car to be started....

something NO code cracker will look for, totally off the wall, kind of a stealth mode anti theft system.....

:bump:

OK - That's two things I have to get together with you for - the headlight conversion and some alarm pointers....

Thanks!

I create and install my own disabling systems for all my vehicles. The way I look at it is, the systems on the market can be known and defeated easier. If you have some electrical experience/savvy, pm me for some details.
I had a GMC pickup that I rigged, and it was tried several times. After the first break-in, I installed a hidden siren. That alerted me on the second attempt, and I caught that sucker. Wasn't pretty. :cussing:
