Update on my Edelbrock 800cfm AVS 1812 carburetor:

The install and problems are here in "part 1":
http://vettemod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3811

The engine ran so rich with this carb, I was barely able to get the timing set before it would foul my plugs. The fumes were so bad, I don't think I'll see bugs near my house anytime soon....

I exchanged a few emails with Summit tech support and they were insisting that it's an adjustment issue and that it was normal that I had to tune the carb myself... just my opinion: I do not believe that I should have to buy a $65 calibration kit to make a brand new $400 carburetor run without messing up spark plugs...
After numerous emails with Summit tech support I broke down and ordered the calibration kit. The primary jets are supposed to be .113 and the secondaries .101 (from Edelbrock's website).
Tonight I opened the carb and found .120 secondaries, the primaries are even larger but I cannot read the number on these. Just looking at the holes side by side it's obvious that they're much larger than the .120 secondary jets.
I guess I know now why it was running rich.... wonder how these jets got in there ?? Maybe I got somebody's return or a remanufactured carb... I'm very curious to see Summit's reply to the email I sent them 30 minutes ago :bomb::bomb:

Wonderful, simply grand.....is it a AFB Carter knockoff or a Qjet knockoff???

I have a old Carter strip kit you are welcome to if you need....

Have you talked to Edelbrock's Tech Department?:drink:

I called them yesterday and was on hold for 20 minutes before I gave up....

Still waiting to hear back from Summit - the two jet sizes that are installed from the factory (.113 and .101) are not part of the calibration kit so even with the extra money spent on the kit I might still not have the jets that I need.

Edit: called Edelbrock today, they confirmed jet sizes .113 and .101 are standard, no idea about the jets that I have... they are sending me the stock jets at no charge
Still have not heard from Summit....
