Does anyone think it would be too expensive to take the iron bumpers from an early C3 and have a fiberglass body shop re-create them in fiberglass with a smooth gel-coat finish, and then have them chrome plated with a vacuum metalization process. I was looking at a new Ford F-150 (?) and it had damage to it's front bumper. It could see that what looked like a chrome plated iron bumper was in fact a metal deposited plastic bumper. Maybe the vacuum deposited stuff would be less susceptible to rusting. (Replating shops can't get much chrome into the rear bumper elbows using electrolysis).

Plastic bumpers and fabricated aluminum bumper attach brackets would get rid of a lot of weight. I don't think the stock iron bumpers add much in the way of collision protection.
