Anyone using one of these self sticking insulator products ? Do they really keep the heat out?
 
Yes, but not that overpriced dynamat. Have used dynamat, fat mat, noise killer and 3M bitumen rolls...same stuff, different prices. It does help but especially for noise reduction. If you want to keep the heat out, get the collar for over the bellhousing and install some reflective stuff in the tunnel. For that you could use dynamat or alike but you can buy pre made tunnel shaped insulation pieces too. There's also a thick insulator mat you can put on the inside of the car:
 
Do you think it would be possiable to install tunnel insluator with the trans in place?
 
What year is yours? Earlier cars have pointy fold over tabs riveted to the fiberglass floor that hold the insulation. No way you can install that without lowering the tranny.
 
Mine is 1970 with the fold over retainers. So can I use Cool-it self sticking type stuff in the trans tunnel and maybe another layer under the center counsel to beat the heat? It's a friggin oven at this point!

Years ago when dropping the munice out of my '72and doing the automatic route, I removed one filthy greasy oil soaked mat of CRAP out of that tunnel, course it HAD been in there 25 years at that point....:devil:

but I was surprised on finding it, so did not replace it, wouldn't fit anyway....

so I insulated hell out of the topside made sure the shifter rubber boot is tight and secure, no leaks, and it's been fine....:smash: even in FLORIDA summers...

not that the headers help much with under hood heat.....
too boot my electric fans are angled down like the rad, so engine itself gets almost no airflow over it....

I like to hear that! What did you use up top? My car is so hot inside it's nearly a oven! For now I have old headers hooked to some turbo mufflers directly under the foot wells and as you can imagine the heat is pretty incredible. I have hooked up the rear section of my MagnaFlow system but lack the $ and time to get it connected to the headers. When my ship comes in I think I want to get a set of short tube headers that will allow me to use the remainder of my MagnaFlow set up. I found a guy on the West Coast who makes a really nice set of cast iron replacement short tube headers for the BB vette. Seems like a good guy and a decent price for them, but I've already spent way to much on this car for now.

I just used household crap from Loews Depot...I peeled off some of the thickness from R12 insulation, and then backed it up with double side foil that has like bubble wrap in between it...fiberglass strands over the surface, and 1/4 inch thick....I maybe have some jute padding under the whole mess on the pass (HER) side, I forget....I just cut the corners, then tape it with aluminum duct tape...I have 2.5" pipes with a H behind the tranny, and out to stock '72 muffs...
