Credit Card theft

So my wife gets a denial when using our credit card on Saturday. So I call the help line and they ask me to verify the last 3 transactions....2 I knew about (the denial at the store) and the third was an online charge from McAfee. Didn't recognize that one so I tell the person on the phone to deny it. She does and reactivates my card.

So I get a call from the fraud division of the credit card company on Tuesday They wanted me to verify some more recent charges...one from a local tire store where my wife had the local inspection done on her car. And 2 from grocery stores. These 2 happened within an hour of eachother.

So I ask the person if the stores are in my neck of the woods........she says they originated in Texas! Well, I live in NC.

So she cancels the charges and tells me that I have to close the credit card account and they will issue me a new card. I went through my online statements and didn't find anymore bad charges.

Bastards and thieves!!!!!!!!

I wonder how someone can buy something without a physical card and not show id? Unless they bought the groceries online and then picked them up?

I have to fill out some paperwork and send it back to them. I wonder if they will investigate or just write it off.

They could have easily have a physical card. All you have to do is call up with the right info. However, they probably would have asked you that.

I can't remember the last time they checked my sig on my card. I've been tempted to sign "ben franklin" to see if anyone noticed. I've signed 'X' at least once with the electronic sig pads that fuck up all the time.

I used to sign the receipts with micky mouse, nicky louse, etc....they didn't give a shit.....

First happened to me about 15 years ago.
Ended up talking to a Secret Service investigator, they are the ones that handled that. At the time she said they didn't bother with anything less than $5000.00.

A couple years ago, my wife used a brand new card at a restaurant, only place it was ever used legitimately and charges at physical stores 2000 miles away in Chicago showed up a couple days later so they did have a real card and not hers.
Someone at the restaurant sold the numbers to someone. There is a big underground in this credit card stuff and people do make and sell usable cards.

My wife was behind a customer at checkout at a Best Buy, when the customer just ran out the front door. My wife asked the cashier, and she said that the card had come up stolen. The Best Buy employees are instucted to do NOTHING.

We all end up paying for this.

FAR cry from some years ago, local dept store, our security guy tackled a shoplifter, both of them going through the plate glass window....and to the hospital.....today, no one gives a flip-flop.....

I use a credit for a fair amount every month. And every so offten I get a few internet charges that I did not put in for, I just call in and they (the credit card company) take care of it. So far none have been over $500
Think how many phony charges are paid when people don,t check there bills.

About 2 years ago I got my MC bill and there was a charge for $15000.00 at a titty bar in Australia! There was also a pending transaction for $500.00 for a "slumber party"!!! I called the company and they said they had already taken the charges off my account and then closed my card and sent me another one. Before that while I was on business in Abu Dhabi, someone got my debit card # and bought $1100.00 worth of auto parts and had them shipped out of the country. Cool, huh?
