Customer Service in America

Comcast - I recently moved and I had to argue and repeat myself for 4 days to get my service switched to my new home, 2 miles from the old home. Later that week I found out I had to do it all over again so I switched to Verizon. 2 weeks later and I am having similar problems with Verizon - they can not deliver what they promise when they promise. Everyone is polite as hell but totally incompetent.

WTF is wrong with customer svc. in America?

I have no more patience or energy to deal with these MORONS. After 2 weeks of repeating myself I am just plain old worn out.:surrender:

It is part and parcel to two phenomena taking place over the last few decades, first is the over use of computers, and the automated bullshit it allows, from calling trees to stupid information put into the machines, and no one with any authority will over ride the system to get effective results....
second is the teaching on 'modern management' in colleges, they think that management can be switched and changed from industry that somehow the talents involved from managing a auto company are the same as for a aircraft company or a TV maker, or a real estate outfit....think Donald Trump would be successful if he ran GM?? maybe to a certain extent...but would walk away with a C grade on the performance,

just because someone can 'organize' a community, don't mean they can run jack shit.....I don't give a shit if the got a PHD in acting GOD like, they still can't run shit....

the people who actually RUN successful operations are good at MOTIVATING their direct underlings to do GOOD WORK....they are leaders, and motivators, which is why ex .mil occifers are rather sought after by lots of industry and they do well on outside, contacts aside....

My father was in business, he knew, he always said, it's good to know your JOB, but more important to keep your crew MOTIVATED....Trick is to know the JOB as good as your boss, better even, know HIS job, better than HE does, in some cases....think today's kids give a damn??

I did appreciate what he said, but I always more of a tech head, and so went a different route....

I too am very frustrated by the appalling lack of customer service provided by some companies today. I say some because not all are like this.

I do a lot of business with AT&T. When you can get someone competent on the phone, it usually goes well. I prefer to use email for minor problems that can wait but they make it extremely difficult to do business by email and their websites run you in circles. It's a mixed bag with them.

Sometimes bad customer service comes from the top down. Other times it is just poorly trained CSRs. An example of the former. I recently upgraded my ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite (a Check Point software company). I paid with Paypal when I checked out. Later, I received an email from ZoneAlarm saying that because I used Paypal, I had agreed to be signed up for automatic renewals and payments via Paypal each year.

I NEVER would have agreed to that yet they say I did during the checkout process. Underhanded at best. Fraudulent at worst. The bad customer service by Paypal on this was primarily due to poorly trained CSRs. Eventually I found one that was able to reverse the agreement and prevent ZoneAlarm from charging my Paypal account each year. However, Paypal refused to tell me if they had an agreement with ZoneAlarm to allow this. They also would never give me the name of their CEO. ZoneAlarm's customer service was horrendous. They actually refused to give me the name and mail address of their CEO. They also refused to tell me if they had an agreement with Paypal to allow this. I will probably end up reporting this deal to the BBB, FTC, State Attorney General etc.

Discover Bank is another company that needs to improve their customer service. My mom and I have been trying for 3 months to set me up with power of attorney for her bank account with them. Each time we think we've got it handled, they send us another request in the name of "security". This time they actually want a notarized letter from me saying that I agree to be the power of attorney. I will give Discover Bank credit for recently redesigning their poor website. The new one is much better but they took away the ability to send them secure email. They will now only do business by phone but it is nearly impossible to get accurate answers from most of their reps and they won't connect me directly to anyone in the legal department so I can discuss the issue.

To contrast Discover Bank with two much better organizations, it took less than 5 working days to set up a power of attorney with USAA and less than 2 weeks to get it done at Ally Bank.

Hats off to Amazon. I bought a product from them last fall that was still under warranty when it failed recently. The manufacturer made me go through the vendor for warranty service. I was skeptical but emailed Amazon. They put a new one in the mail to me before they even responded to my email and then let me download a pre-paid mailing label to return the failed product. Good job!

Sorry about the length but this topic wound me up. I've got tons of stories about companies. Mostly bad but some good.

Maybe we need to start two threads. One to brag on good companies and one to rag on bad ones.

It's all about education, or the lack there-of. Let's have everyone feel good, no keeping score in sports games, everyone gets a gold star, no matter if the do good or not. Everyone gets promoted to the next grade so the teachers look good and don't have to deal with irate parents. Watch Jay-walking?..damn college grads don't know who the Veep is or how to divide. True products of government schools and liberal professors and the like. Unless this changes, and fast...be prepared for the good old USA to become a 2nd world country.

Screwed Again!

:phone:I got screwed again. Today Verizon did not show up for the installation as they repeatedly promised. When I called I was informed that someone at Verizon cancelled the order on Saturday, today being Monday. This is contrary to what actually happened, on Saturday I was contacted no less than 3 times on my cell phone by Verizon to confirm Mondays installation appointment. Today I was also informed that I can not keep my old number, even though I was repeatedly assured for over a week that keeping my old number was not a problem.

WAY TO GO VERIZON - YOU FUCKING MORONS!

I have since decided that the only way to fight back against Verizon and Crumcast is to use a Magic Jack. I will have to get a new phone number for my business anyway and will have to have my truck relettered, so why not thumb my nose at the big 2 and pay only $30.00 a year for telephone service?

If you can't beat 'em - show 'em your ass! I am certainly not inclined to pay approximately $70.00 a month for this kind of service, especially when I can get it for $30.00 a year.:phone:

Let me know how that Magic Jack works out. I may do the same.

My computer repairman recommends it very highly. I'll chime in on it soon.

Wife uses it a LOT, but just locally for scheduling calls/etc....now the issue is, sometimes her FAX machine will not work too good with MJ....

dunno why, and so sometimes it's fine...she has one of them wiz bang HP junk that does it all, supposedly....MOdel J 4580
