Amigo's,

I was offered a set of Dart Iron Eagle heads last night with "really big ports" for $750. I asked and as I recall, the valves were 2.05 and 215 cc chambers??

Would these be suitable for my 81 boat anchor motor? Or are they too "racy" for a daily freeway cruiser?

Thanx in advance...

I would say that they are not terribly suitable. Depending on the combustion chamber size (my iron eagles are 72 cc), you may not gain much in the way of compression. Your low end torque will likely suffer. Your throttle resonse off idle will suffer. Your only improvement will be your high RPM HP. How often do you rev past 3000 RPM?

Check the new price too. These are not terribly expensive. For $750, I sold my Edelbrock RPMs which, I think, are much better suited for your 81. I presume you can find a similar deal on ebay or Craigslist.

Don't get me wrong though. These are great heads. I had them on my 383 and they were fantastic. I intend to use them on my 413 small block too. They flow very well. AS good as any non aluminum heads that I found. Their main benefit, though, is at higher RPMs.

My .02

BB heads usual combustion chamber is around 119 cc's. And the performance GM heads had 2.20/1.88 valves.

Tim might be right. I assumed that the 215cc was the intake runner and not the chamber size. I assumed therse were small block heads, no big block heads.

Yes sorry, Small block heads.

I'm not entirely clear on the 215 number. It was at the pub and I'm no expert on Chevy heads. My local engine builder said they'd be suitable but not to pay over $600. I think he'll be offended at that offer:bomb:

215 is the intake runner size. 215 cc. Fairly large for a near stock 350.

I think $600 is about right. Maybe $650 if they are in REALLY good shape. I still think you'd be better off with used alum inum ones in the same prie range.
