You know, nowadays when a hard drive craps out and it's only $80 or so to replace it and many don't think about personal data that could possibly be restored and then a few months down the road you wonder how somebody got your SSN or bank account info....
There are quiet a few products out there that are supposed to wipe the drive clean before you trash it. Can you really trust a software ?? I don't....
Here's how I made sure NOBODY can restore the drive that just crashed last week.... the computer is already restored using Norton "Ghost" but that's a different story..... here's the drive that died 09-12-2008 ....RIP......

and here's how you make SURE nobody can restore any data from your drive :

Harddrive clean sweep software: $100
Miller Lite and a 5lbs sledge: $20 on sale
Piece of mind that your data can't be restored: priceless
Having a good time in the garage drinking beer and beating the crap out of a harddrive: priceless
