Does anyone here have DISH TV? We recently signed up for a 2 year contract. I have a problem with the audio and video signals not being synchronized, most noticeable during live news broadcasts and also most noticeable on the local stations. Can anything be done to correct this?

Interesting, we just signed up maybe 4 months ago, and no issues of that nature, just the blackouts when a goodly storm passes over...

and that constant nagging issue of the aspect ratio, maybe a month later my 36" CRT at 12-9 crapped out, so bought a 42 LCD Visio trick....and so the ASSpect ratio is always off, so many choices, and seems FOX news is one for the most part, but when flipping local or network, it's another guessing game...

all I want is a damn TIRE to look round, for christsakes, not like a damn FORD emblem.....seems to be a tad much to ask....:skeptic::cussing:

I thought that was the issue with the lcd panels, ours does it once in a while with direct tv.

There are actually 3 'standards' for TV, one as in the movie theaters....I dunno the exact ratio, but it's more like 20 or 24--9 , 12-9 is the old TV standard you would see on a older set used to be called 4-3 .....the typical HD broadcast is supposed to be 16-9.....

but somehow they mess it up, and when viewing a round circle/tire image, if it's round, 1/2 the time the writing on top/bottom of the screen is missing because it's being broadcast on the old standard 12-9 it's a PIA to keep switching, and remote with DISH network has some funky settings,

I just wish the damn original broadcasts were all 16-9 and for movies just cut top/bottom off and hell with all these buttons to keep changing shit around....

I used to be in the TV business in the 60-70's and of course one of the things was setting up the colors to land one on top of the other, known as convergence....that and setting the scans to fill the screen without overscan so the pix has the proper proportions, in other words a circle was a circle, like the old TV test patterns....so I still a bug on that shit, and seeing something so messed up is irritating....wife could care less....

;):goodevil:

I canceled my cable because the audio quit working. Cable company couldn't get it to work. The problem started soon after I switched to HDMI cables. Seems like the explanation that was given to me is that the audio is handled and processed separately from the video signal.

Is the audio out of sync all the time or is it intermittent?

NO, it's the same with the video on the HDMI line from my sat box to the TV, we can play the TV speakers, or take the output from the TV in back and fire it off to the stereo....never been any audio 'synch' problems.....

No Gene, I meant the audio sync. I think it was in the manual for the LG flat screen, warning that there could be issues, something about the the processors handling the voice vs audio, maybe the video refresh gets behind, if that's possible.

I changed my post to read audio sync....I have a Vizio 42" from Walmart....
1080p....I would suppose if you take the audio out the back of your TV the thing should be fine....does it work ok from the TV speakers?? and you are feeding the TV with the HDMI cable??

We are using the built in tv speakers and the 3 coax cables from the Directv box to the tv (yellow=video, red=right audio, white=left audio) and it has happened a few times over a couple of years, that I have noticed, sometimes worse than others. It would be annoying all the time.
I'll see if I can find the manual tonite.

On the patio, my wife has the video from the dtv box plugged into the tv and the right and left audio from the dtv box plugged into a remote headphone signal box and apparantly itt works fine, but it is a 19"lcd.

On live broadcast (News) it is very noticeable - but it does seem to shift while you are watching - sometimes it is in sync - sometimes out - and it can happen during the same broadcast. It seems like the old FM drift days before you could lock in a station. It slides in and out of sync (the audio & video).

The Dish TV tech. was here yesterday - he was clueless - and full of BS too. He tried to tell me that 99% of the customers do not notice the problem and those that do do not make an issue out of it - yeah right! I guess I am one of the ONE PERCENTERS now! I had this moron in my house for an hour and he did nothing except BS in circles.
Customer service really sucks nowadays.

I guess it's a local thing, damn if I know, but the install tech was top notch, he was the son of a family from Cuba during the Kastro daze.....about 40 or so now....so natch we got into poly ticks a bit, but he really knew the system.....but of course my not being at all familiar with that shit, I called for service after a week, and the backup kid....well, I feel like a olde tyme fool, I can tell you HOW it works, just not WHY.....

or whatever....suckers knew their shit....
