I like to give my dogs some rawhides to chew on occasionally, but that is going to stop real quick.
Rawhide = $15.99 a pound :shocking:
Steak = $7.99 to $9.99 a pound
I am going to get them soup bones from the butcher from now on. This rawhide crap is way out of line. :pprrtt:

Watch out with those rawhide chews. They are indigestible and will plug up the digestive system.

I buy stew-grade (cheap) beef, slice it and freeze it.
My dog loves it, it's hard enough to it gives her plenty to chew on.

We use two things with our dogs, one of which is a bloodhound - which has a hypersensitive digestive tract.

Pig's ears

antlers..... dogs love antlers - and while they can be pretty expensive at the trendy stores - if you have friends who hunt, they can easily supply you. pricewise if you have to buy antler - $15-25 for a 6" 2" diameter antler piece... however, they last for a long time - I could easily feed the bloodhound and my yellow lab 3 large, Costco bags of rawhide bones in the time it takes for them to go through 1 antler - and as far as I can discern, they like the antlers as well as rawhide, maybe even more so.

We also avoid bones, they can shatter. A bit of background, my wife and I both are search and rescue volunteers; she uses her dog, the bloodhound (aka floppy-eared terrorist) for tracking in SAR. My yellow lab is just for looks and labradoration.

It took my shepherds a long time to accept the Elk antlers but when they finally did they worked them pretty hard.

At the moment the boys favorite toy is a black five gallon bucket! He's near desroyed this one, the second time for this:rofl:

I worry about them ingesting plastic, hopefully it's harmless.

Right now my three are enjoying some frozen raw soup bones. I had to lock the door to my bedroom or else I'll find a nasty soup bone in my bed. The Min-Pin loves to burrow and store her treasures.

I'll get some antlers next. I like the idea that they last a long time.
