I have replaced all the plastic parts, gone as far as roughing up the plastic insert, adding sticky tape, etc. Cannot keep this dang thing from coming down while driving. Any tricks to keep it up until needed? I have noticed alot of bungy cords, rubber bands, paperclips, and other crazy things folks have used to try to fix this? And the passenger side seems to be bullet proof, never have an issue with it.

Thanks

On my 77 there is a steel sleeve that the rod runs through. I squeezed the sleeves slightly in a vice. They have worked great ever since.

Tried the squeeze thing, worked for a little while. Currently testing "superglue", (Cyanoacrylate) advice from another forum member. Apparently the glue crystallizes on the plastic and creates alot of friction. It should not adhere to the metal. So far so good.
