I have been desperately looking for a 91-96 R/F wheel house for my vette when I ran into this seller who had one for 75.00 (used) I then looked at shipping at it was like 95.00 set rate. I emailed him thinking maybe it was a typo but his response was the opposite he did in fact want 95.00 to ship it from FL to CA.

Yesterday I contacted a chevrolet dealership who is a ebay seller and has a lot of NOS parts and they listed a brand new one for 109.00 + 14.95 to ship.

what a crock huh .... These clowns selling used shit and wanting more then a new part costs.

I was skeptical about it being a real chevy dealership but when I asked I was transferred to there parts department from a nice guy in there service department.

here is response I got from seller regarding the large shipping cost

I tell you what. Go to ups.com and fedex.com, measure your wheel house on your car, add 2" to each of those dimensions for safe packaging, then see how much it costs to ship. WE DO NOT ADD ANY AMOUNT TO THE SHIPPING CHARGE!!!

If this thing was small, it would cost around $10-$14 UPS/FedEx, however, that is not the case. This is a large item, larger than you think.

The bottom line is that the seller is responsible if the item gets damaged, and this is a part that can easily get damaged if the box is too small.

The response I got from the chevy dealership

How may I help you SIR
Let me look to make sure it is correct for what you are needing
How would you like to pay
Sir we will be mailing the part to you tomorrow
Thank you for choosing J.B chevrolet for all your needs and have a great day SIR & if there is anything else I can assist you with again please dont hesitate to call us.

Now you know what I go through, even if I got stuff for free it would still cost me an arm and a leg to get it here

Yeah but your rich

NOT after paying 150 bux for about 60 bux of bolts....:hissyfit:

After leaving the hardtop to my vert hang on the garage ceiling here for about 3 years, I got tired and put it on C3 parts on CF.....some guy out west wanted it....BUT he had a in through his employer, with a shipping/trucking company...I had to pack it up using 2 sheets of 1/2 ply 2x4 in the corners....so about 40 bux in material and some screws the guys show with a forklift and gone....his shipping was like 50 bux for maybe 2k miles...., he emails that it was in better shape than his car....:drink: for me to ship it with same company...it was going to be several HUNDRED BUX.....

what you need is 'pull' without THAT there is no go....:ill::gurney:

The ebay guy should have just given you the wheel for free.

Hmmmmm...US MAIL vs UPS. I lost count of the number of things I shipped or received that were damaged by the talking monkeys at the US Post Office. Given the choice, I'll take UPS or FedEx any day. :banghead:

Glad to hear it came UPS. BTW...there are repro GM parts being sold by numerous places. I just bought a repo intake manifold that is 100% correct as far as part numbers and it even has the Winters emblem on it. But it's a repo from overseas.

LOL...since when do third world countries worry about patents and copyrights?

There are some GM repos that are licensed. The big block aluminum bellhousing comes to mind.

Just for my education, I thought the BB and SB bell housings were usually. interchangeable.

The OEM GM bellhousings had a reputation of being accurately dimensioned; i.e you could bolt up a tranny straightaway. No need to index the bell housing with the engine pilot bearing, and then use offset dowels for a perfect alighnment. I wonder if the repro bell housings are similarly accurately tolerances. In particular Keisler sells a repro version of the GM #####621 bell housing I believe.

Good ol' Jim Butler Chevrolet. They're about 20 minutes from my parents' house. Good dealership, in a metro area that's full of car dealers who range from fraudulent to batshit crazy. If you don't believe me on the batshit crazy part, look up Charles Schmitt. He still sells used luxury cars, but he used to be the largest Rolls-Royce dealer in the US until they pulled his franchise around 1985.

from what I have been told the new #621 is cast in China but machined here, getting a good one is hit and miss. Is the Keisler bell marked GM or CM ?

I have to pay import fees over the item total + shipping (including any shipping in the us if for instance container freighted), then they take that total and slam on 19% tax. Then when you have to pay these fees they add a nice brokerage fee too. x2 is about what it will cost here too.

He gets reamed hard .... Don't worry!

AFAIK they are interchangeable. No idea about the fitment of the repo GM bellhousings. I THINK they are using the same molds, so they SHOULD fit the same way. All I've ever used is Lakewood and I never ran into fitment problems. (Knock on wood).
