IIRC there's one guy on CF installing one of these.
There are a few outfits with these electric power assist systems now, Flaming River is one, can't remember the others offhand..it's the old timers setting in.
They do fit under the dash, at least on a street rod. You cut out a section of your steering shaft and bolt the unit in place. It sits upright above your column. Installation seems pretty straight forward.
I plan on one for my '35 Chevy. No hydraulics to leak and they are progressive. The more input you give to the steering wheel, the more assist you get. About a thousand bucks. Say it quickly and it doesn't hurt that much.

Unisteer advertises their unit at $999.00. AFAIK it has a speed sensor with the unit. FR is way more pricey, and frankly, it looks about the same. There are a few outfits with these electric power assist systems now, Flaming River is one, can't remember the others offhand..it's the old timers setting in.

where is it $1,000? the EPAS kit is listed at nearly $6,000 (5950) on Flaming river's website.
The only system I know you could get in cheaper is adapt a Chevy Uplander or Transwhatchamacallit's electric assist rack and pinion steering... that's about $250 plus the steering column parts. It wouldn't be progressive steering unless you've got a speedo sensor
