My senior project in college was on global warming. Wrote a 27 page paper on it. I have all that useless info in my head. Ships are the number 1 contributor, so if you buy fuel efficient 4 cyl imports... you're harming the environment cuz they have to ship them over here! Haha.

Well, unlike the olde daze, they not shipping AIR, they shipping engines/drivetrains packed tight, not whole cars.....conex boxes full of harnesses, not pickup cabs....
the 'pollution' created by ocean shipping is primarily dumped in the ocean, back to earth where it came from in the first place...carbon to carbon dust to dust....
Cows are also a big contributor, .....may I sugges that a brazillian years ago dinosaurs had a stinkier ass, and so the planet survived.....
and so are cars. Yes global warming is exaggerated, but if you think you can spew whatever you want out of your tailpipe without later having to breathe it in, you're in la la land.
No one loved the ass end of a stupid CARB back in the day....especially on a winter day with black clouds of a clogged up linkage surprised the driver on his way to work one morning....BTDT....in the real world, not Kalifornia....
I think about 95% of you all's air 'quality' improvement is from computer controlled engine, much more than any silly Cat ASS trophic converters, etc....so I say a step further, put the LEAD back in the gas for the improved power/economy side of things, and use lead tolerant O2 sensors.....and I go a step further....I found out we can run at like 17-1 A/F ratio under light demand situations....vs the current target of 14.7 hey man, sorry but leaner on my gas budget is BETTER.....
I made more hp than anyone on DC dyno day... with a leaking HG & intake gasket... and you could still breathe in the room while my car was on the dyno. Can't say that for all of the cars that were there. The ZR1 & the Z06 don't seem to have any problem making hp with cats either.
Cats are not supposedly compatible with leaded gas, leave the chemistry up to someone else as to WHY, I just think the 'solution' to the Kalifornia air 'pollution' over the last 50 years is due to something totally removed from transportation...CARS....
