I plugged my cluster back in my 1981 had two issues:

1) Since I added LED lights I can see better but when I dim. the top gauges brighten up and when I turn the other way the top goes dark and the bottoms light up. Its likely that I didn't screw it up and that its been that way a while, I just can see it better now. Any suggestions?

2) Gauge needles now peg to the right or not working. Likely I need to jiggle the plug and get a better connection on the lovely ribbon. If a needle was moved, would it cause this? Should I open it back up and reset the needles? Don't we just love old cars.

Sounds like a grounding problem on the plug, type issue, maybe at the bird cage where it's bolted near the hood release....?? gotta be careful with that printed circuit , I hated them things back then, the fingers on the plug area can delaminate from the plastic, and so to glue it back again, a delicate task...

I used super glue for that....:flash:

Yes recheck the fingers or ribbons on the large plug. Straighten and glue the fingers and inspect the rest of the printed circuit for burns.

Thanks, well I did glue the fingers and retried and that was definately the solution. I decided to order a new circuit since it seemed ver brittle and just to complete the job a little better for $68 at Ecklers.
