I was going to go to check out venders, look at the cars and do the Gettysburg thing (I love Gettysburg). The weather here in Western PA was bad so I gave up on the idea. I was just asking if anyone else was going, it would have been nice to meet some people from this site. Jack

Like yourself I really enjoy time at Gettysburg. Every year a group of us stay there and we drive in to Carlisle each day. The ride in takes about 45 minutes to an hour and you get to wake up easily driving through the hills and enjoying the orchards. The ride home from the fairgrounds lets you wind down from the days activity and you are ready for that beer or two prior to going to supper. Where we stay the Appalachian Brewing Company is literally in the parking lot of the hotel so driving after drinking is never an issue.

I have taken the battlefield tour a couple of times and learn something new each time. Downtown Gettysburg is a great day walking and enjoying the shops. My wife doesn't enjoy Carlisle so much but Gettysburg is fabulous for her.

I would like to have taken my car there just so the NCRS people could have gone nuts while telling me everything that is not correct on it. (as if I dont know)

OLD friend who had a retirement party last weekend up there, I was just a stone's toss away from Gettysburg....

years ago I had a Union Springfiled rifle dug up from a 'adjacent' farm from the park.....

interesting rifle, the stock had a piece of LEAD in the stock on the right hand side...but not shaped like a bullet, just a chunk of lead, not so very big...

and the barrel was bent, like something HEAVY rolled/fell on it....

the lock-work was not there, but the strike plate and trigger guard were....

believe it or not, there was a small amount of the finish left on some of the stock, the rest was pretty well intact....

gave it to a buddy for a large favor in '80.....

oh well...
