What do you get if you buy GM Delco parts?

You get a big GM delco box w/ a smaller white box inside (already got a baaad feeling here!!) and then... AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :crap::crap::crap::crap::crap:

So, if you open your hood it'll proudly show, made in %$@#%#$%^#%#$

where was that black sharpie?

There's not even Delco printed on it. They are repackaging china chit!

The much cheaper non oem brand ones don't show something that ugly, they have a small circuitry diagram on it. At least the pads and parking brake cables (all Delco stuff) are made in the USA.

Of course the catalog (rockauto but it's not their fault obviously, their service is top notch as always) shows this pic

Next time, I'm getting the Standard Motor Products ones, at least they don't proudly display made in China.

Years ago, when Delco was Dayton Engineering Labs Co., they were a manufacturer of all that they sell. Now Delco is a "brand". Someday, if not now, Delco won't make anything. They are selling the license to make parts to anyone that has the money.

We, (my shop) used to buy a lot of Delco starters, water pumps, alternators, clutch kits and such. These are now all made in China. Now I don't buy Delco any more. I hope they wise up. The brand is tarnished, perhaps beyond recovery. BUY AMERICAN!

TT, that style relay and a short story for what it's worth....

Those style relays were in a Olds Silouette wagon, think Chebby Lumina mini van....and so owned by my stepson and wife/family shit hauler....

so that relay in the engine fan circuit burnt up taking the plug with it...replaced both and called it a day...<6 months later, again, then we did voltage checks and did the same thing, changing the fan motor for a new one from AZone....

<6 months later, same shit....burnt relay and plugs....exchanged motor, and went for a junkyard relay and plug, same story....at this point I/WE are rocket pissed....

another new fan motor from another parts house, and this time a junkyard series resistor from another car, a Chrysler thing I think....so this last time it lasted a year....

he sold the van for a long list of reasons, but shit construction was one of them....it's the only vehicle I have had repeated relay failures with and it was that style relay....go figger, and I never did figger out WTF was going on with it.....voltages and currents and shit were fine, mounted in stock location, no evidence of water damage, or anthing else....just constantly burning up like it was shorted out or something, traced wires, went nutz...

Being a shop owner, you might be able to answer this. How can you find where the part was made? This is really difficult if you order over the phone or internet, like from Summit, etc. (or in TT case, you're halfway around the globe).

I have tried to find out from Speedway and a couple of others and I don't get a response.

Most suppliers either won't look for the country of origin, or the parts box isn't marked.(I thought by law it had to be noted). If a critical part is needed, I always consider country of origin. It is getting hard to find parts produced in the U.S.A. If you have the time, call the company that makes the part directly, (Edelbrock, Hooker, MSD etc.) and ask a sales rep. to find out for you. It is your money, and you have the right to know where it is made.

Actually in my case it's real easy when ordering from Summit. Because of the Homeland Security stuff they have to include paperwork that shows the country of origin from ALL the parts ordered. If I order a large box full of stuff only a couple items are actually made in the US it's mostly Mexico, China and Taiwan.

As for Chinese starters, how about a fricken plastic outer gear (planetary gear reduction starter)

What a POS! It simply failed due to stripped teeth on a hopped up 406 :(

Just look at it, the fork is plastic too!
