You're right, way too cool for them to actually make.
Problem is, with that kind of styling, it would draw a younger demographic. Of course, in typical GM style, they would only offer it fully loaded for $60k+ and then wonder why the old farts would turn their noses up at it. Now, if they built it with a turbo 4 or 4 cam v-6 and priced it around $30k, they might not be able to build them fast enough.

Exactly what I was thinking ... This thing would fly with a simple 4cyl turbo ... For 25-30k it would sell like crazy , just like the Solstice that these idiots killed .... Lol....

GM is held captive by their stealership network, they greatly NEED the service income to cover the ENTIRE operational overhead of the company....yes, the ENTIRE overhead.....can you imagine the electric bill??? alone???
much less the property taxes??? then we get into the INSURANCE bills....
which is why the entire lines of cars are folded....Edsel, Mercury, Pontiac, Saturn, Plymouth, Olds, jeebus, I running out of names already....Take a look around on the roads?? remove the badges, and they all look alike, why, centered around the .gov computerized standards....
Lord knows how maybe European names are basically folded....
Shitroen, etc....and they getting more and more expensive and complicated to fix....for no good reason....

Many years ago they brought the Solistice prototype to one of our races and let us drive it asking if we'd buy one. I think we all said Hell Yes but when they produced it it was so overpriced we all looked away. I still like them but won't pay the premium...

but seriously, GM would not build anything that makes sense, would they??? While they keep making Malibus and Impalas that are so far substandrd..... some Chinese or Indian manufacturer might see the market for little affordable fun cars....
a small two seater vert only needs a small 4cyl turbo to make it fly, production cost can't be all that high I would think... that Solstice was about 25k (new), maybe $4000 more than a Miata and still less than a BMW Z4 or a Honda S2000..... none of those had a turbo.....
how about that Lotus Elise?? got 50k to spend on a toy ????
I would bet money if they make this car and get it on the market for under 30k it will be selling .......
