What do you recommend that I put on my control arm shaft. I am replacing the bushings with poly. I know about the special lube for the bushings but what about the metal sleeve on the control arm shaft. Thanks again for your help. Jack

Any metal sleeve I have seen in decades has serrated edges to them, and so is locked into place on the shaft, via compression from the washer/end bolt...

then the bushing rides against them.....not the shaft, directly....

so when doing urethane, you can tighten up the end bolts off the car, much easier,....when doing rubber, you need have weight on the car and then tighten the end bolts to keep from twisting the rubber to the breaking point....

Thanks, good info, but what would you use on the shaft, I guess by your response antiseize.

Between the shaft itself and that inner sleeve? RTV or nothing, not that I ever bothered, between the sleeve and the urethane, there is a special grease they used keeps wear and noise down, but over years it washed/wore out, and it's a PIA to redo, some guys drill for a zirk fitting, not a bad idea....I didn't and so it squeeked....I just went back to rubber uppers about a month ago....after 15 years....

:D

I'd use some locktite on the bolts in the bushings. The poly ones I got didn't have any serrations on the sleeves. So far, I keep checking them and haven't found any loose- I didn't use any locktite- If I find one loose, I'll safety wire them. Drill the bolt heads and run .032 Inconel wire.

I am using Energy Suspension bushings. The sleevs do have serrations. My question was based on my old (rubber) bushings. They were a pita to remove and the sleeves were rusted to the shaft. My thinking was to try to avoid that rusting, but I am sure the Chevrolete didn't give it a thought in 1977 (rust...so what). Soooo, I guess I will go with antiseize. Thanks for your ideas and time, Jack

YES to Locktite red on the end bolts...for sure, mandatory, I have had them back out on me both with the poly and on another car with rubber bushings...

must be nice to have a source of Inconel wire...

I misunderstood- YES use a little anti-seize on the ends of the shaft.. Sorry. I was thinking about the bolts.
