This POS 3310vs carb has been nothing but a fkng headache since I put it on years ago. Thing is, it's never been anything tremendously major, although it's probably going to end up nuking my motor if I don't chuck it. Among the other problems I've posted in the past I had a great one today.
A few weeks ago I drove it to a club meeting. As usual the car ran like a scalded dog. Got home and parked it until today. All I needed to do was move it out of the way. Get in and start it. Hard start but I didn't give it much thought since it's been sitting for about 3 weeks, even though it has sat far longer than that with no problems before. I get it started and back out of the driveway and then she sputters and dies. I get out cussing and kicking. I look under it and there is fuel pouring off the block. I pop the hood and sure as shit there is fuel all over my manifold. So I'm thinking what the fuck? For shits and giggles I get in and crank it over to see if I can determine what's happening. Gas pumps out of the vent like a Venetian fountain. FUCK! First thing I think is maybe I dragged some trash into the needle and seat. Pulled it but it was clean. Pull the whole bowl off and it appears that in the last couple weeks the plastic bowl has just given up the ghost and decided to sink. Fortunately I have spare foam float, it has some damage to the foam but it will at least get the car out of the middle of the road. I put it in and after some of the gas evaporates off, she starts right up. I have no idea how much gas I put in my crankcase but I just did a goddamn oil change about 250 miles ago. She was still showing about 40psi at idle.
I swear this thing is just going to nickle and dime me until it grenades my fucking motor. I'm going to build my old Q-jet and throw this fucking thing in the lake.
Piece of shit.

I have been hanging at cruise nights and car shows for decades, not so much recently, .....and my only comment is.......show me a Holley/related carb on the engine, and I WILL see evidence of fuel leaks.....on the carb, on the mani, on the engine somewhere, some how, plus evidence of it being cleaned up.....

the Carter Qj on the motor home has a BRASS FLOAT in it....

As some of you maybe know, GEICO insurance was located on Western ave in DC/Md......so a buddy had a job there as inside claims adjuster, which naturally involved most of the fire claims.....this was back in the 60-70's

he noticed something, that was HOLLEY carbs were on some 95% of the engine fire claim cars....after that WAY down the list was Qjet, and never a CARTER series......

so years ago I got clued on that little interesting stat, so no HOLLEY on my damn rides never.....

Quadrabogs ain't much better, ditch it all and go TBI then you still have semi-looks of a carb under the hood but no problems.

TBI is on the shopping list. I just happen to have a Q-jet now. I hope to put the injection on when I do the AFR heads, and I hope to do that in the next 6-12 months. I would just like there to be a healthy motor to put all that on.

If you need a cheap speed density tpi haness let me know, I have one from a 90's camaro

The Demon is pretty much the same design as Holley. I've used Holleys for a really long time and never had any problems. Ol' Red has a Mighty Demon on it right now. No runs drips or errors,.
Just like any carb, they're subject to crappy (dirty) fuel. I've replaced more quadrajet floats for being saturated than I have Holley floats too. And this crap they call gas with alcohol in it is NOT helping anything either, IMO. The alcohol is eating rubber fuel lines, soaks up water like a sponge, causes rust, evaporates way faster than gas, and I suspect it's going to kill the nitrophyl floats too.

Like Tim AT, I've used Holleys for years also with very few problems. I too upgraded to Demon carbs, seeing them as somewhat of an improvement on the Holley platform.
I'd buy another Barry Grant product in a minute. Parts will be available for years for their products, I'm not a bit worried about it.

My only issue with them is the same as Gene. The accel pump is stupid. IF the diaphragm leaks, you have an engine fire. Have caught them twice just before trouble. I just don't know if they are worth the danger.
A well set up QJ is better than most. BUT, they must be right, not butchered.

And those are the key words. And there's a large number of guys that "think" they know how to set one up correctly, but merely are putting a band-aid on a forest fire.

I had several holley 650 spreadbore double pumpers that were great when running right but something always acted up and I always went back to the Rochester. Was a happy day when I threw the holley carbs and new kits in the trash.

my holley does not leak, and the BG i had did not leak either. you guys must be doing something wrong.
