Headers and exhaust "restoration"

Just dismantled my whole exhaust.
It's not new but still sound. I has surface rust.
My plan is to wrap them with those heat resistant fabric at the headers and under the cabin.
While it's good for the cabin an engine bay heat, I heard it can aggravate the deterioration of the exhaust line.
I was wondering if there was something I could do to make them a little nicer and help them to last.

Same issue, but 2000 miles to the south.....methinks my cabin is a tad hotter than yours....

love to hear a solution....and NO I don't have money for SS tubes and such either....
