HEI coil differences

So what is the difference between the coils that have a yellow wire versus the ones that have a white wire? I've always heard they're different and you shouldn't use one in place of the other but have never tested that theory. Any validity to it?

I have used them interchangeably and so no troubles...

I was noting that, and so the topic was discussed with another guy saying same thing years ago, and so I believed him, and sure enough, correct....

there are NO differences in engine operation....

I have read internet reports that the magnetic polarity of the coils are opposite. My attempts to get to the link for more details and engineering substantiation have been unsuccessful.

I sent an e-mail to a former co-worker about his recollections, but we're both a few decades older since the HEI went out of production.
