Ever think about how they trim the trees along power lines - they have been doing this for years.


Interesting rig using a helicopter - trimming some trees!
It takes a lot of skilled piloting...he best not tangle with that high line!
A serious brush cutter! Sure beats climbing on a wobbly ladder with a chain saw!

OK. They drop this multi chain saw contraption down, how to the keep the cutting blades controlled for a basically orthogonal cut on vegetation? I'd guess that in the head unit, there's a powerful gyroscope (momentum wheel) that keeps the cutting blades stabilized and pointing in the correct position.
 
Once the blades are spinning, you have a built in gyroscope.
I've seen this operation in Missouri too. Beats the heck out of sending a crew with chain saws down the right of way to cut the trees back.
