So I have an 84 that I just took the crossfire off of, new manifold new distributer and edelbrock carb, it is getting fuel and spark it will start and run for a moment if I keep the throttle wide open and then die it isnt backfiring through the carb or anything any tips???

Are you 100% certain the pump keeps running? Do you have fuel pressure check if you have pressure first.what did you do w/ the ECM and fuel pump relay? The ECM will energize the relay when the ign is turned on but it will turn it back off. Only after it received a cranking (tach) signal will the pump start running again. Since you swapped distributors for a non EST HEI the ECM will not get that cranking signal.

The ECM and pump relay are intact and yes I have fuel pressure according to the guage it will start up and run really low I was thinking a timing issue I brought the number 1 cylinder up on the compression stroke to TDC and then stabbed the distributor mabye I need to move it again not sure I have about 7 PSI according to my inline gauge which I know is to much for a carb but I need to get it running so I can set it down a bit

Well its alive it seems to be just timing havent tried to time it yet I think I need to move the distributor a tooth or two but at least its breathen again
