just picked up a new project vette today and it has all silver interior, car is drk blue. i was wanting to paint this car a dark graphite grey. I suck at interior design, and yes my wife dresses me. Is this gonna clash, should I go with another color?

:lol::lol::cool:

I spent more than a few years remodeling houses, and so when asked for PAINTING opinions.....my favorite reply....

'Paint it purple with pink polka dots'.....and in FACT, that was my best reply and got the most laughs....the obvious intent....but the side shot was that I have NO OPINION....as it's not my HOUSE.....or car for that matter, in this case....

I think that would look ok but if you want to take some pics where you can see paint and interior and upload them here, I'll photochop them so you can see what it would look like...

More or less I was interested in trying to figure out what were approved colors with silver interior? Silver car/silver interior= way too much silver for my tastes. Not really asking an opinion on what color to paint my car.

the real "approved" colors are the ones you like. If you're looking at what GM did, find the color chips for that year.

Years back I did my interior in Silver and Black. Black inserts on the seats and the door skins. Did the exterior first in Red white and Blue - then after a few years stripped again and did in Tuxedo Black. I can send pics of the interior (its out now) if interested, dash and carpet were silver as well.

Cheers - Jim

Hope these satisify for now...

Here's a few = mind you - they've been in the closet - and I'm rebuilding the Great Room too! So dust and crap is flying!

Here is one of the seats:

Mind you these were redone 20+ years ago. The black was some fabric that I got from Recaro - they sold it to match their seats. I bought a bunch to do the doors - and when the seats didn't fit - did the seats too.

Dash and other trim was vinyl spray painted and looked sharp. I must have some pics somewhere - but can't find those just now, but here's a sample.

The carpet was a dark Silver/gray as seen on the lower side of the doorskin. I sprayed the arm rests with the vinyl paint and it held up better than the plastic inserts for the mounting bolts! You'll know what I mean!

The 'skins and seats may be coming available in the next 4-6 months as things start to progress on the 'Vette - but for now - back to the house! (Oh yeah - and work too- Sailing will have to wait a few).

Cheers Jim

If I understand this correctly you want to know what colors go well with silver interior but you don't want an opinion on what color to paint it ???

:rofl::rofl:

OK, seriously: I think that the dark graphite grey YOU want to to paint YOUR car is going to look great with the silver interior.....

That was what I was alluding to, upload some pics of your currently blue car with silver interior and I'll photochop the car to look graphite grey ;)

One of the "quick"ideas for combining colors is to keep them within the same range of the spectrum/heat/temp/hue/etc - Now natrually -you can flash outside that for emphasis - but GRAPHITE Grey and Silver are close together. I'd be concerned about being too close - and might want to add some contrast.

You could accent with a very harsh black/Carbon fiber look dash/door skin segment/ console etc, for contrast (or the seat piping, etc ) or just the carpet etc.
I'm not trying not to sound like an interior decorator here -
I am a f*ck^n fighter pilot!
- but if you keep the color selection to a total of 3 or 4 - you can't go too far off. Make a few sketches, or buy some rattle cans and spray some card stock and see what you like! Just an idea of what I found helpful in years past.

Good Luck

You know my wife is usually my beacon of Hope in these situations. She is a doctor and gone to a conference for two weeks. So I am left with you guys. I have a black vette and wanted something a little flashier, so i thought of graphite....LOL
