How well would a L-83 cam work with TPI

I would like to swap my CFI for TPI in my 82 vette. I know the cfi is batch/map as is the TPI I would like to use. I definitely don't want to get into cam swap/head swap etc, my cfi runs pretty nice so I see no need for any engine mods.

Has to be california legal so how the ecm reacts to the cam is very important!

NO CFI TPI wars please I am wanting to do the swap simply because I like the looks of a polished TPI system.

I hear you gotta pass a visual....so that cancels the project right there, if NOT...well, yes the TPI will react very nice, it ran SO nice on my original/rebuilt by P/o L48 engine, I wish I left it alone, really....

but I went for the hotrod roller engine....killed my idle and fuel economy...

still tempted to change the cam to something much milder....

maybe in the next life....

Well mine has the 700r4 with highway gears so I thing fuel economy should improve some as well. But my goal here is complete polished TPI with polished 84-86 valve covers, polished serpentine stuff, and coat my stock exhaust manifolds. I have the 90 vette for speed, the minivan for nice ride, camaro for whatever the hell I bought it for. But the 82 is just going to be a periodic driver on nice days.

My '87 and this L48 with TPI ran smooth as silk, you really can't go rong with it...assuming you have a mild/stock tune to the chip....

I tried ONCE to do a aftermarket computer, and it was a nitemare for some 2 months, finally went back to stock setup with a 'tuner' chip.....
but that was on this roller motor,

the basic stock but 'tuned' chip in the stock computer is the way to fly...

the computer I have is 1227730 a speed density setup....here in Jax they are a ten buck junkyard item....just change the Cal Pack....today they are cheep, maybe 150 bux from a tuner..who has to have the engine specs pretty good, especially on the cam....I assume you will go closed loop and keep your stock exhaust setup....the O2 sensor should work fine....I THINK the dizzy will too, but I forget a lot of the TBI setup parameters...

The L83 cam is a lame cam, lamer than the roller TPI cam. It's a flat tappet. Get something else, preferrably start off with a roller block and go from there.

Yeh, but the '85-86 and hardtop '87 were flat tappet cams....'87 verts had the roller engine.....like mine was...

I can't imagine the programming was all that different...
