Sam is a 40 pound collie mix who was brought to a shelter in Ohio August 17. He was about to be euthanized when an animal rescue group fostered him and then he was neutered in West Virginia. Someone paid over $300 to that veterinarian. From there he went to Maryland and finally to Danbury, Connecticut arriving on Sept 11. I saw an ad on Petfinders.com for him and last Monday, we went to see him. We were supposed to wait a week and come back but Sam bonded so fast and so well, they let us take him home. So we paid the $100 adoption fee and now he has a new home. He’s very friendly, quiet and I still haven’t heard him bark. But he loves it here and gets along with Abilene my MIL’s old dog. Now the cats are a different story. But my wife has tamed all our dogs, including me.

Congratulations & thank you for your getting a friend for life!

The woman who lives next door to me decided a couple years ago that she wanted a companion to go 'power walking' with, so she paid close to $1000 for, of all things, a fucking "pure-bred" puppy mill English bulldog who has since had to have thousands and thousands of dollars worth of surgeries to attempt, with limited success, to fix congenital inbred caused defects. That dog is a worthless, uncontrollable, stupid animal. I'm sorry, but it's true. and she will have nothing to do with it anymore--it cannot walk with her, so she ignores it. It is up to her husband to take it out for slow, short walks just because he feels sorry for the dog. A fucking shame--a criminal shame.

My buddy, Big Ace the Wonder Dog, is a shelter rescue dog who is mixed breed, has one ear shorter than the other from being bitten off, scars on his face and body, a limp in one hind leg, a busted & kinked tail--all from previous life on the streets before he got rescued. He's now the best dog a person could hope to share a life with. Yes, we have occasional, uh, shall we say, 'issues' with each other, but hey, man-to-man, (or dog-to-dog, for we are equals in this life) he's the best there is and I don't know how I would get by without him. All the neighborhood kids, and most of the adults, love Ace too because he's just such an easy going happy-go-lucky friendly galoot.

"You're a better man than I, Gunga-Ace"

Again, a heartfelt thank-you & congratulations, for both you & Sam!

( & the local Humane Society is one charity I still give to gladly as much & as often as I can)

I think that's really great news. The shelters are crowded, and these animals are in need of loving homes.

Now, he's got better live :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

he certainly does have a better life.
he sleeps right next to me.
with his long head and neck hair I told Debbie he was a hippie in a former life.

I'm more of a cat person, and so wife feeds 3 'hood strays/mooches I think only one of which has adopted us....and then the 3 indoor cats, yes, the joint is a cat house....and the loudmouth FAT Chiwawa....it's a combo of Apple head and Teacup weighs 11 lbs, looks like 30 lbs....

one of our kittens was dropped in the weeds by it's mom, and got hit by a weedwacker her son was handling....at about a day old, and maybe 3+ inches long, so Dave and her nurse the cat back along, eyes opened in about 7 days, little Tiney is the grandkid's name, I call it 'Wacker'.....he lost part of his right ear, and his right eye is messed up, but Tiney is a fighter in every sense of the word....and the source of much laughter, good for a good belly buster once a day at least....
