after having a 68 L-88 and a 70 LT-1 and others back in the mid 70's , in 78 i bought a new pacecar and HATED the big window and rubber bumpers. i turned that into a convertible then made it look like an 80 and put a rat motor in it . i still hated it. over the years after seeing how some cars were destroyed by the big bunpers( look at the m.g's ) it really wasn't as bad as we thought. the big window although it makes the car hotter it really feels less cramped. i get people all the time telling me my 79 is the body style they think of when they think Corvette. so after apologizing almost about rubber bumpers and big windows i am done, i like the old girl just fine. some day i will tell you this cars story and it is a good one.

Aesthetically, I just can't consider the bubble back anything but a deal breaker, however rubber bumper feels normal to me.
So, I love my 76'. The only thing I miss is the subtle curve of the butt of the early ones.
To assert the space problem I plan some kind of fastback mod.

Glad yours growed on you, with all the work spent on it you'd better love it.:friends:

the funny thing about the back window is a good friend of mine retired from Ford ,but early in his career was an engineer for Chevrolet at the time of the big window . and he told me a designer for General Motors told him the 68 Vette was supposed to have a one piece hatch, and the big window. i have found that the one piece hatch was a true statement, and the big window was to carry on from the c2 but was bigger and not cost effective at the time. don't know if it is completely true . my friend passed in 2009 so i can't get more information from him . but it is an intresting thought,:skeptic:

My favorite years of sharks in order:

1973
1968
1969
1979

I like the fast back styling of the '79s but don't like the spoiler butt of the later years or the sucker nose on the later models. I think the rear rubber bumper looks weird on a a sugar scoop Vette but looks good with the big rear window. Enjoy your '79!

I love the 79 styling, When i think of a corvette or Stingray, that is the car that first comes to mind. While i was searching for a vette project, i even considered buying an earlier C3 and putting the rear from a later C3 on it.

with the fiberglass parts that are out there for not much $$$ you can modify and build your Vette the way you want it.... taking the bubble window out and install a flat deck is not THAT big of a deal .... it's all do-able ....

I don't mind the rear bubble window, I just like 'em a little wider and some more rubber meat under the fenders.....

I love my bubble window, although i have been thinking about replacing it with lexan and making it removable.

Over large bubble windows on any car, look stupid to me, I remember a fast back Barracuda a buddy had, New in '67....though the window looked stupid, but kept my mouth shut...:hissyfit:

and rubber bumpers have been a curse for decades now, another part that shrinks, deforms, cracks, always some paint/finish/shape problem with them....

:censored::surrender:

actually, the 67 barracuda had a comparatively small rear window. you may be thinking about the 64 - 66 barracuda. i don't dislike the chrome bumper cars, i am only saying the late c3 bumpers don't bother me at all any more. some cars of that era had there looks totally destroyed . then came the 80 - 82 vettes and they look downright nice.:beer:did the 63 - 67 corvette look stupid???
