I should not be able to tell you this, but...

a Chebby engine can maintain good oil pressure on about 3 quarts of oil (small or big block, doesn't matter). Starts to lose it around 2.5 quarts.

I noticed the same thing on my wife's Mustang.
Light would come up when she braked a little hard, I asked if it was the brake check light... no no it' the oil or engine light...
Jo you got to check the olio once in a while LOL
Her response?
What? didnt you check it???
Oh well.

I shouldnot tell about this but.....

Wife's Escort, 2000 cc SPI engine, water pump went out, engine get hot, and pump dripping down front of oil pan, typically driven maybe 4-5 miles at a time, IF THAT....car cool down, but once -twice a week she would call and complain engine quits at lights, etc.....I had changed the cooling fan motor for bad bearings, noise....so engine running without good cooling for a long time, she came up the street clanging and banging like it was falling apart, this time we see the steam....let it cool down and I change the damn water pump, driven from the cam belt, lovely....so that little project takes me 4 hours because of it being FWD, engine slammed to the shock tower so tight it rubbs.....and so what happens this AM?? lower hose somehow slips of the pump, and here she comes again, clanging and banging like a bucket of bolts, put the freeking hose on there and tighten living hell outta the clamp, this shit pissing me off, already.....

found out something, Ford put the temp gauge sender in the stat housing out on a leg of it tied to the heater hose.....so if no water, it's not in the head where you as a driver would realize it was running HOT, no, it's out in the airstream of the fan and normal airflow, bust a hose, and destroy the engine....this time she drove it lord knows how many miles....coming off the freeway it went to die at lights.....so a minnimum of 4 miles driven.....

engine cools down, and runs fine, no noise, nothing, not even any smoke, makes me wonder if there are any rings in it...

hopefully you heard this on the internet and don't have direct experience :club:

I know that you can put the distributor in, in such a way, so that a 455 Oldsmobile has oil pressure immediately, but will drop to nothing when you're out on the river... heard about that on the 'net too (any resemblance to a boat I used to own is a coincidence).

Relax all, bullet dodged. But I did notice a scary drop in oil pressure whenever accelerating, braking or turning. Noticed when going to a friend's house. Pretty much coasted home, oil change and fill, now all is well.

as an aside note the missing oil seal? I couldn't figure out why I kept getting worse oil leaks as I increased the pressure in the oil system.... especially under WOT

Anyone with any experiences on a aluminum head OHC engine with running super hot?? then it running ok?? or seemingly so?? I changed O/F on it, but I getting nervous, and need to plan for anything, I don't recall ever burning a engine that badly in the past....

I just saw that episode on Judge Judy. Woman tried to sue her boyfriend/mechanic (he did the oil change) for a blown engine due to no oil or oil pressure but admitted she never once lifted the hood. She drove it for about 3 weeks with little or no oil before it grenaded. She lost.

I was so excited the day I (finally) picked up my car after buying it, that I drove off without checking the oil or gas. Took a few blocks for me to notice the gas was close to empty. Stopped, filled up, and got on the freeway for the drive home. Got about half way home and had to take a leak. Took a little break and got something to eat. As I was walking back to the car I realized I better check the oil. Sure enough, it was a couple quarts low. Needed some coolant too . . . :noob:
