OK guys I picked up a new sbc jesel belt drive real cheap, and was wondering how it might hold up on the street? We run a belt drive in the BB for the 57 but we change that every year before we start running the car. It never seems very worn but then again maybe for the whole season it would only have 50 or so passes, its just run at the local track. Anyway, I'd like to hear what everyones thinks or maybe from experience?

Well, a lot of cars use a belt to drive the cam, why not use a belt drive. Are you going w/ a wet or dry belt?

A Belt drive may very well be stronger and more durable. It gives the most accurate cam timing as it doesn't transfer harmonics like a gear drive does and isn't as sloppy as a chain although on a street car you probably won't even notice the difference.

OK, Odd question about cam grinding.....are the rear cylinders ground a X degrees advanced from the lobe position of #1 cyl??? figgering on twisting the cam along it's length??? especially as RPMs go up..

:skeptic:

well the install we did on the BB was really pretty easy and str8 forward...it was a huge difference from the gear drive set we were using, the harmonics it dropped was amazing, so when i found the belt drive for the sbc i jumped all over it....I was planning on using a dry belt system Marck, my question was more towards longevity, we swap the belt in the 57 every year.
