i'm always looking for a cheap, throw away car to turn into a track car. yesterday i'm looking on craigslist and there's a guy giving away a 91 MR2. no interior and he smoked the motor but otherwise complete, all someone has to do is put it on a trailer and haul it away. so i called the guy up and it's a slushbox.

These "throwaway" cars become quite expensive after you put a bunch of time and parts into them. Then what do you have? A silly little girly car that has no balls.

maybe that 2.2 engine they had in the 80's?? with a turbo cranked up good and proper, bet that little Neon leave the paint behind.....

TV, i still have the 240. it's just taking a long time to put together. i'm probably going to keep working on that, but it would be nice just to get something i could put on a track for less than a grand and burn it up.
GENE, i know a lot of people use neons but i have an allergic reaction to anything made by dodge.

I had one of them pull alongside me and challenge me in the 'Vette about 2 yrs. back. I thought WTF??? A Neon? Then I heard the waste gates dumping and knew I was looking at a little V8 killer..... quite a surprise at the time!

my first turbo car was a '84 Dodge colt, with that 'twin speed?' like a dual range 4 speed setup....bought it for nothing, but in '89 that little turbo was all burnt up, lack of oil/water? cooling, so I put on a later turbo assy, cost like 700 bux....but when done, that little skunk FLEW, sold it to a buddy to drove the living shit out of it for some 7 years on the street as a DD, Ray drove like a maniac.....it finally died a honorable death.....

I never messed with my '87 Dodge Shadow ES, white 4 dr....the ex got it in the split in '88 and she let the kids trash it out, she dumped it for a minivan so she could become the neighborhood bus....

they're pretty good for what they are, but v-8 killer they're not. at least not a late model v-8. maybe not even a v-6. i did a track event a few years back and some guy had one of those turbo neons (SRT?). i'm not even sure it was faster than my (then) overhauled original L-81. just no way it would be faster than the c5 unless seriously modded.

even stoock they are in the mid to high 13 area modded they are pretty quick..... same motor combo as my pt cruiser and mine went 13.1@107 with a few bolt ons with spray it went 12.3@116
