I think this comment is right on the money. I know people without a high school diploma that are very smart and I know some PhDs that are just plain stupid BUT in the industry I work in, your application for receptionist won't even be looked at without high school.
It isn't about being smart or capable. It is about options (or advantages if you prefer). A PhD won't make you good at a job or field but you won't get a second look in some fields without one. Same goes for a high school diploma.

Definitely get the degree. Voice of experience here. I never got a degree but completed a 4 year tool & die apprenticeship. An apprenticeship with several years experience used to be considered equivalent to a degree for the tooling professions (tooling engineer, tooling manager). NO MORE! Everybody now requires a BSME and they are pretty adamant about it. I'm job hunting right now and it looks like my 30+ years experience accounts for squat! I guess I will have to go back and get a degree at age 57. I probably get it just in time to retire. :huh2:
