Even though I have NEVER been asked if I had one (I do..."1983") and I'll
bet I make more than most with a degree. It is a rapidly changing world
that your about to enter. The job markets are going to get tight.....and I
mean TIGHT. You need every advantage you can get these days.
Never take your education for granted.....it is the only thing that can set you
apart from the competition. In tomorrows world the race will only be won by
those who work SMARTER.

Definitely get the degree. Voice of experience here. I never got a degree but completed a 4 year tool & die apprenticeship. An apprenticeship with several years experience used to be considered equivalent to a degree for the tooling professions (tooling engineer, tooling manager). NO MORE! Everybody now requires a BSME and they are pretty adamant about it. I'm job hunting right now and it looks like my 30+ years experience accounts for squat! I guess I will have to go back and get a degree at age 57. I probably get it just in time to retire. :huh2:

I think this comment is right on the money. I know people without a high school diploma that are very smart and I know some PhDs that are just plain stupid BUT in the industry I work in, your application for receptionist won't even be looked at without high school.

It isn't about being smart or capable. It is about options (or advantages if you prefer). A PhD won't make you good at a job or field but you won't get a second look in some fields without one. Same goes for a high school diploma.

Yeah thats the program I am planning on doing, or at UCF. I'm going to do 2 years at a smaller Community college since it will be free with my scholarship. Then at the last two years at the university it covers 75%.

I'm not really sure if they have all the classes though

KV got it right, don't repeat my mistake, got into electronics back as a single digit grade school kid, knew it pretty good along with many ham radio buddies, we used to design and build our own gear....WAY before the Jap invasion and domination of the consumer electronics industry...we had the luxury of old WW2 surplus parts houses all OVER the joint also...so parts were plentiful and cheep.....one problem, the industry became about more and more for less and less, so my occupation as a decent salary TV man, was NO MORE< one of the top techs in town, didn't matter, I burnt out after 15 years of that BS, went into engineering/prototype development work for a small company, they literally sold the product line, I was VERY LUCKY they kept me on and let many other go as they explored other options....some of them went into computers and programming, something I dabbled in a small bit....but I understand computer logic only to a certain extent...just never made the leap into programming, I was burnt out by then, anyway....

a old tech I worked with, his wife was baby sitter for my daughter, so we got reacquainted and he was doing home remodeling, we discussed the field, and I held down two TV shops as head tech while getting my Builders/contractors license in Maryland....total and complete field change....

electronics is just back to hobby status....the only Gates I know are ...

and/nand or/nor that's IT.....

I'm taking english and calculus and two other classes that I don't really have to take right now.

It has definitely opened my eyes up though.

I still had the mind set that I could just glance over the HW and do a few problems and then study the review a little and do good on a test.

Boy was I wrong, I get my results back tomorrow.

I'm going to take some other hard classes next semester

Probably calc 2 and physics. Or maybe calc 2 and chem.

That is, if I pass calc :smash:.
 
Congratulations on your graduation from high school! One door closed and another opens. Life is all about passing through doors and jumping hurdles. The farther along you go the more opportunities become available. Work for a degree in something you enjoy and you will have a more rewarding career. Good Luck!
