Wife and I have a small motor home, we planning on a trip to KW in the next few months....web searches are not terribly friendly for the info we want....

we hear of gay pride day/week whatever....when is it so we can plan to avoid it....

are there any plug in camp ground on the islands 30 amp service....???

it really don't look all that large that we maybe able to park and walk....even if no camp ground on KW directly, where is the next closest??

what can we expect to pay for lunches/dinners?? I suspect we will do our own cooking, assuming a plug in campground, can we just park in some lot overnight without them going nutz,?? it's a 22' long unit...small....

what other keys on the way down/back to stay at with our rig??

we plan on slo travel down rt1 or a1a then across gator alley to pick up 98 past the islands and mosey up to Cedar Key, then home....total time ten days....

Got good tires?

:crutches: two new tires in front LT rated out the door installed 200 bux...a steal from a little tire dealer, not a chain store,... 2011 date code...
4 matched used tires in rear, LT rated 2008 date code 214 bux out the door, sold the ones that were Pmetric pass tires on the rear for 80 bux....

:D

I even added a radio....:chinese::tomato:

Been a long time since I went camping, but I remember using KOA sites for an overnight stay. They were mostly clean and had full hook-ups as well as just plain ole campsites.

Look it up...I'll bet they have one in Key West.

I just got back from Miami monday and that ghay pride crap was all over the tv, I think it's sometime the beginning of March.

I drove down to Key west last year and stayed for a few days. I do not recall seeing any campsite/RV friendly places on Key West but I saw several on some of the keys on the way down there. I'm sorry I do not have any specific information to share. Good luck with your plans!

We flew into Fort Lauderdale a few years ago and drove down to Key West. Didn't do the RV thing. You might check with either the Chamber of Commerce or the Visitors Center. Keep in mind that the Chamber will generally only recommend Chamber members. Don't know about the Visitors Center.

Here's a link to some RV park reviews in Key West: http://rvparkreviews.com/regions/Florida/Key_West.html

Don't plan on getting anywhere fast if you are there on a holiday. Our flight left on Memorial Day and we missed the flight. The trip from Key West back to Fort Lauderdale took twice the time as it did on the trip down due to all of the traffic on that little two lane road going home after the long weekend.

Watch for the rainbow flags and banners on the shops and bars (especially on and around Duval Street). Those are your gay places.

Great place. We'd do it again.

the keys are awesome, I like the drive to Key West more than Key West though... Key Largo is nice, there's a HolidayInn right by the marina. $200 a night is quiet pricey for a HolidayInn, dinner at a restaurant by the marina was like $70 for two and that was by far not the most expensive items on the menu.... be prepared to spend some money... :D

campground will save you a lot ....

Don't know about electrical hookups specifically in the Keys, but in general most campsites that have "R.V." spots include it. I like this website for Keys info: http://www.fla-keys.com/

When I was there a few years ago, I remember most places on Duvall St and Mallory Square being in the $10 to $20ish range for meals. At a Cuban Restaurant in Mallory Square, I had Ropa Vieja and a margarita, and paid less than $20 including tip

The aforementioned website said not in Key West on the camping page :(

This place is always ranked in the top 10 beaches http://www.bahiahondapark.com/

I've never been, but some family members really enjoyed Sanibel Island: http://www.sanibel-captiva.org/
