Lack of tranny exhaust hanger, is that bad

Thanks to a forum member question, I realized I'm missing the tranny exhaust hanger.
I didn't think about it because there wasn't any in the POS I initially bought.
How bad it is? Should I fab one?

:hissyfit: I had to set here and scratch my ass wondering WTF you guys were talking about....it's that plate between the trans and the cross member, that you take U bolts to the pipes to keep them from knocking in the cross member loops, right?? only been outta my car for well over 15 years now...

I would say yes it is fairly important. It keeps a rigid connection between the headers and the exhaust pipes at the header flange. As the engine twists on the motor mounts from torque reaction, the headers & pipes have to move with it. That bracket is attached to the transmission, which is solidly connected to the engine. It will make the front section of the pipes move the same amount as the engine as it moves, thus keeping the integrity of the flange connection as well as removing the stress of the resistance of the downstream pipes movement on the header connection to the engine block. The mounting/support of the pipes is flexible farther down the line, via the rubber hanger straps at the tailpipes, allowing exhaust sytem flexibility of movement.

Gene, yes, I'm talking about this bracket.
Phil, Larry, thanks for the comment, I will look forward to fab something there, eventually.
From what I understand the bracket has to bolt to the tranny (as opposed to the crossmember) so the whole engine assy can wiggle in unison.

I MAY have one left over from the Muncie trans yet, but not seen it in years now....I would have to look, I have no way of knowing if any of them interchange or not....

honestly, I would not bother with the bracket....

course I modded my cross support to eliminate the loops, but I can drop my entire exhaust system from headers back to tail pipes with just 6 bolts.....

6-8 more the cross support falls out too....
