Late C3 AC Question?

Why does the AC hose on the back of the compressor on late C3's stand straight up and then bend 90 degrees? Were they trying to get the hose at the highest point? It is not like this on other vehicles that use the same compressor.

probably a piss poor attemp at hose routing. I am going in with custom made Aeroquip hoses and planning on a 90 on top of the connection block for that line.

I agree with Danny, I had a set of custom hoses made up about ten years ago, and they been fine, course I changed to '88 vette serp drive, and so have a later compressor on there....
