Ok, I put in my rebuild steering column and attached all the wires going to it.

I have 2 questions now (please not a lot was changed on the car when I first got it. I reconnected everything like from the factory so I'm not sure how it should work) :
- my lights don't come up or go down when pulling the light switch. On the other hand I can pull them up or down by the override vacuum switch below the dash. Is the light switch faulty ?

- When I switch to the high beams, the outer normal lights go out. Is this the normal situation ? I think they should both work simultanously when using the high beams (inner lamps)

Thanks

Yves

Are all the hoses still attached to the switch? They easily poop off if the little metal clamps are missing

Yes, lows dim when highs are on, easily remedied by makign the whole shebang relay operated.

On my '72 that has the stock headlamp wiring, I think TT is incorrect, the lo beams go off when the hi beams are switched on, that is why 3 wires on the foot/or steering column dimmer switch....

I do wonder about that move on GM's part though but every older car of their's I have ever had with the 4 round bulbs in front was wired that way, I think it's a left over from the old HUGE round bulb daze....and my car is wired that way still, even though I have later Camaro bulbs in there....

I don't do much night driving anymore, so never thought about it one way or another......

and yes the wiring can be improved with relays direct fed off the Alt output stud, to keep the lights bright as possible....methinks if all 4 were lit at once, they be looking piss yellow instead of white, no matter what.....

:flash:

DVM, check resistance and turn the knob, shouild increase/decrease when turning. When you have it hooked up, be careful..the spiral get hot enough to burn skin.
