Coming home from a local show and shine tonight my LT1 stalled out, then would not crank. The rest of the car had power but nothing happening at the starter? Another guy in a Chevelle and I were running pretty hard a few minutes earlier. My son came to my rescue, and I then ran back to house for the trailer. The trip was maybe 25 minutes. When I got back to the car and jumped in, it started right up.

Any ideas?

Edit: The car is bone stock, I mean factory original. I know where I,m asking.........but this is where the right answers are found.

Probably the starter solenoid suffering from the heat. Replace the solenoid with the high heat version (brown in color) part # 1114458

That and I wonder about that VATS system, isn't there a relay on that starter solenoid wire, that if the computer don't like the key just right, it won't close the relay?? or was that changed for the LT1 series??

:bump:

Thanks for the suggestion TT! I will look into the solenoid today! A problem with the solenoid could or would allow the power to the accessories but not even a tick at the starter?

It was pitch black on the section of road I broke down on. Lucky for me a utilities company driver stopped and "blocked" for me, very cool of him! The flashers on these cars suck. Lesson learned....no more racing at night!!!

Thanks again!

Gene, I think he means an LT-1, since this is in classic vettes?
Yep, it's a 72 w/AC forgot the hyphen?

It's a sweet ride, 72 LT-1 w/AC 49,107 miles, original owner car (I just bought it from the widow). The car was stored in a retirement home storage garage for the last 25 years. The PO would run the motor something like once a month or every other month. Again, it's all original right down to the exhaust! The license plate screws were still in the paper envelope in the rear compartment.

I know you guys are mostly into "MODS" therefore the name of the site but were else can you find a group that actually works on there own cars? Oh, and can offer the correct advice??? Right here, that's why my problems come to you folks!!!:bounce:

OMG, that is the same I DENTical car as Andy had, vette club member 15 years ago, in Md. outside DC, he redid the suspension on my car because of the tools and shit, but he owned a '70 LT1 like that, same color and everything, his too was dead stock NCRS type car....
and yes, this is where the hands on hotrodders hang.....
