Clinging to my guns and religion in KCMO.
I had to manually open the headlights to get at some stuff while I'm putting the car back together, and I'd like to close them back so I don't have to keep reaching over them now. They popped right up with a slow tug, but they don't feel like they want to go back down. I've got stuff taken apart in the engine compartment, so starting the engine isn't an option (and I don't have a portable vacuum source either). So, what's the procedure so I don't screw things up?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike, i't been SO damn long, but there is a over center latch/cam? arrangement in there so they uplatch but you can get in there and look at off center deal and flip them down from under or up top if you know where....

I have done it on my car before '98 many times....not all that hard, wish I could help more, but no pix....

Pardon my ignorance, but yours a C3 right?
If so, close the headlight my pulling the actuator rod, they should quickly switch in the closing state.

Edit: of course, it's a 69. Sorry, tired tonight, I have been fighting with my door all evening.

I've done it many times with no ill effects. Just pull the lever down and back to release the locking mechanism.

I'm not following you. What is the lever/actuator rod (mentioned by denpo) you're indicating?
I meant those :

They connect to the headlight assembly by some sort of rod, right?
Well, just mimick the action of those actuator, by pulling the actuator's rod by hand, and by pulling I meant moving it toward the back of the car.

Here's my setup (with electric motor)

You see the lateral rod with two springs connected to the motor arm? Just at the center of the picture. Well, move it toward the motor and the headlight with flip close.
Watch out, once it goes in closing mode the spring will slam the door shut, don't leave you finger on the way

Erratum, when I'm closing my doors, I'm actually retaining the door with my hand make sure it closes gently, so you have time to remove your other hand.
Sorry, afternoon posts are always made in the middle of a rush.
