OK, this issue is about to drive my feeble mind bonkers so I could really use some help. In my little Datsun project car I have installed a Carter electric fuel pump. Normally all is well. But every so often the pump will lose it's prime. Now I know what you all are saying, that it must be sucking air from somewhere. That could be but here's the tricky part, when this happens the only way I can get the pump to pick the prime back up is to screw with the pressure regulator. Sometimes I tighten the spring pressure, sometimes loosen it. Sometimes I have to take the outlet line off the regulator. Then all of a sudden it will pick up the prime and everything works just fine.
In case you're wondering the way the fuel system is right now goes supply line, particle strainer, fuel pump, fuel filter, pressure regulator, carburator.
