metal shavings episode #2: inspecting the oil filter

I found some metal shavings on the magnetic oil drain plug (photos are in this thread):

Tonight I decided to cut the filter and remove the filter element. I placed the filter element in a plastic container and filled it with fuel.

Tomorrow I'm placing a few magnets around the bottom of this plastic container and drain the gasoline/oil mix..... let's see how much crap I'm going to find.....
 
After all that, take a razor and cut both ends off the paper element, then stretch the paper out so you can see what's really going on. What washes out of the element is going to be way different than what was actually trapped.

It takes two minutes and a sharp pair of scissors - that's it.....


I'll cut the paper filter element as well.... I already found some more "fuzz".....

I'm not happy about it.... I bought a 7qt oil pan a few months ago, pulling the stock style pan won't be a waste of time as I would install the new pan at that time.... still... I'd rather drive the car....:mad:
