Modifing the rear body or bumper.

I seem to start project after project at once. I completed the following so far. My recessed headlights, my big block swap, the t56 6 speed transission swap, sidepipes, gauges and hood. I have to wait for my new leather seats to get shipped in, but while I wait I want to think about my next project.

I think the rear of my 81 corvette looks plain and would like to see what you guys have done with yours. Or provide me with some ideas which I could do. I dont want to do anything crazy......I would like to keep the basic look of the car.

I have 3 thoughts in mind

1. Putting the chrome rear bumpers from the earlier c3 69-74 corvettes on my 81......people make a big stink about this swap and say its hard, all I have to say is HA keep overreacting. This is VETTEMOD!! hehe hoho haha

2. This next is a thought that will get done. On left is the mustangs filler door 120.99 and on right is the baldwin motion corvette filler door about 279.99 I like the baldwins look better but I hate that it has a chrome base around the bottom so I am leaning to the mustang look.



3. Swapping the stock bumper out for an aftermarket one or even adding a rear spoiler.

All ideas and thoughts for modifing the rear half of my car is appreciated.

I like the Mustang filler cap, the other one looks too purposeful for a street car. Right on a racer but we don't want the "boyracer" look.

Spoiler on the rear??? Same thing. F&F ricer look. Not appropriate IMHO.

Mind you, this is VetteMod so anything goes. I'm just old enough that addons need to be useful before I'll consider them.

But, I'll admit that I LIKE the purple lights under the car,...;-))

When I meant about adding the spoiler, I wasnt thinking of a ricer spoiler..... ACI makes a rear bumper that has the spoiler molded into it like stock, but it is bigger than normal........and also there were some c3's that had a spoiler on the rear.

I've been wanting a variation of that for my C4. I don't care for the bolt-on spoilers that you see on C4's. The IMSA and Trans-Am Corvettes of the late 80's had a nice tall spoiler like that.

I wanted to modify my gas cap too but I didn't think it would look right just replacing the fuel door, and at the angle of the rear deck, so I did this:




I also wanted to do something different to the rear end. I bought this bumper from Vanacor (before they burned down obviously!), which has a taller spoiler than stock, then grafted in the C5 script

That is exactly what I was planning to do with the gas lid if I went with the pop up type.

I was wondering why I could never get through with Vanacor!!! A fire explains alot.

Do you have a pic from the back of you car with the bumper installed??? I went through ALL the pics you uploaded and damn!!!! Your pics should have their very own section on here!!!!! Made me forget all about Corvettes for awhile. Hell, Ill even change my pic to my wife for awhile lol.
