Clinging to my guns and religion in KCMO.
I'm making a few tweaks to my fan shroud to clear the new A-arms and the rack plumbing. That's been easy so far, with just a couple of quick jigsaw cuts. However, I need to make a major change to make a full width (approx 24 inches by 2 inches) notch in the bottom of the shroud to clear the sway bar, which is positioned a couple inches above the stock location. Essentially I need to find something to make a half round clearance bulge, but also have a way to glue/rivet the half round bulge. Riveting would be easy, but are there some plastic/ABS/PVC options? Would epoxying or fiberglassing be the best? Additionally. what plastic sheet material would be the best to later rework/seal up the areas I had to cut away for suspension clearance?

thanks,
Mike

Years ago there was some plastic we used in the company, called KYDEX soemthing similar spelling.....it was a black plastic we molded and formed to what we needed, simple for us even WE couldn't fuck it up.....I don't recall any glues needed though for our work....

but as I recall the material charactoristics were very similar to stock plastic fan shrouds....

IMO, do Dual Spals....DeWitt or Ebay....

Additional (up front) weight and complexity.

Glass/epoxy would be your best bet. Most sheet material (like ABS and PVC) will get pretty soft around a radiator.

hoohoho....reminded ME of a try on plastic plumbing on engine cooling....

NOT.....:banghead::gurney::gurney::ill::o

The fan shroud from my 68 was made by General Tire (or some other tire company). Not sayin' it was made out of rubber but I wouldn't be surprised.

I think Doc Rebuild sells materials that are used to repair stuff like heater boxes. Maybe he sells repair materials for fan shrouds?
