I got my 184 bowtie block in. This is a late style block with an original 1 piece rear seal.

I had an adapter installed that would let me mount a 2 piece crank in it. There were 2 choices available in these adapter, namely early style and late style. Since they told me that an early style pan didn't fit these blocks (which is correct) I opted for the late style adapter.

These are some pictures that I have taken of it. I test fitted one of the thick rear seals of the for the early style lefthand dipstick blocks (i think the seal is for the 80-85 style blocks). It doesn't seem to fit.

I would like to know which year pan I could use on my block and car. Thanks

With the seal adp. for the late pan use the one piece pan gasket right from GM and a little sealer you should be all set.

Hey Carl,

I assume that the GM one piece seals is better than the Fel-pro variety ? I've read numerous threads about them starting to leak.

I take it I can just mount a 1986 and up pan on this one. Would it fit our C3 chassis' ?

PS : must say this block is a pretty stout piece. A lot heavier than the usual blocks I have seen here. Nice.

You answered your own question, you need the 86-up pan

Most aftermarked oil pan suppliers can tell you what pan will work on a corvette chassis.

I would use the gm gasket. I have 1 car with the blue fel pro and it weeps a little

I have a aftermarket (thick stamped steel) 86+ pan with trap door that needs a new home when I install my 7qt pan....

I used the Felpro 1pc and a little RTV, no leaks.

I have a zz4 motor which is a one piece block. Changed to a Canton roadrace pan and cannt get it to seal. Tried using rtv just at the edge of the radius and also rtv on both sides of the entire gasket. Still leaks so next step is gm gasket vs. felpro.

Dunno.... I used this one piece Felpro gasket and I was impressed with the fit as well as the fact that it just doesn't leak :smash:
no complaints here..... think I bought it at AutoZone....

I read threads all over the forums that complain about the Felpro 1 piece gasket.

Moroso sells a 4 piece set.

BLUE CHINESE GASKETS LOL

I agree but lately it's difficult to know if a product was relabelled or not, and if the last step was done in the West or not. I know certain German countries do all the production in the East, then do a last step, like fastening a bolt in Germany and consequently selling it off as a full German product. Hmm.

Will make a trip to the local GM dealer and get me a gasket from them. I need the adapterseal as well and couldn't find this gasket alone on a place like summit or jeggs.

On a side note : I was examining my Autotec pistons. Look quality pistons and not to bad a price. However a couple of drawbacks. The skirts are about 0.5" shorter than what I'm used to and the oil craper ring has less return holes. Hm. I asked them some questions. Would like to know as well if the rings are low tension or not.
The piston rod assembly is pretty light. Have about 1769 grams in total as bob weight. Seeing the 6.250 long rod. I think that's pretty good.

Went into the dealership today. Oh boy, you would think this gasket is made out of gold : € 85 + VAT. The tiny rear seal adapter gasket had a waiting period of 3 weeks. pff
