those pictures make me chuckle. I know lots of people who'd have no trouble climbing the tower, but would never get in the helicopter to film the climbing.
I also laugh at the taking a picture of his work - chickenschmidt boss doesn't want to climb up to check his work. On the top of a tower I won't name, there is writing by black-ink pen which describes the thoughts of the workmen about their bosses - which is really funny because my boss wrote some pretty insane things about his boss when he did my job, and I'm sure that the next guy who got my job simply added to the writing...
With that said, I've been at the top of those - and the worst part of the climb is the bit where the ground seems real (I call it the grass blade level - you can still see grass blades). Once you get a couple hundred feed up, the unreality that you experience in an airplane kind of kicks in (I can only speak for me) and then it's merely climbing a long ladder.
But get this paradox, I HATE climbing aluminum, extension ladders or 6' wood ladders... but 1000', no big deal.
