Here are some thumbnail links of my car i'm working on. I didn't like the C4 beltline so I removed it. I foamed the gap that was left all around, and glassed over the foam filled gap many layers. Alot of sanding and messy work! I removed the original bumpers and put fiberglass bumpers on and did the same thing on the gap on those. I didn't like the original wedge bumper so i bought a 90' zr1 flat style bumper. I wanted to customize it but keep it subtle so I made a mold of my original circular style tailights and glassed in 4 circular style lights into the zr1 style bumper (which came with square cutouts for the later square lights). I think the circular lights are alot more corvette looking and i like the way it came out. I also deleted the side marker lights and the antenna. I plan on adding in some LED strips in their place. I plan on lowering the car a bit to give it a sleeker look and wider looking stance. As for now I am looking for a place to work on it because my landlord was bitching about me working on it and the body shop on post is shutdown. So if anybody knows any good spots in El Paso, hahaha. Have some pinholes to fill with body filler, but I don't know what to use yet. I also have to reglass a bit of the front bumper which i noticed was half assed by the company I bought it from. They used resin and bodyfiller in random places on it with no glass at all! I have to chip it back and properly glass it in. Not a big deal but definitely a pain in the ass. Next I need to fill in the beltline gap where the fenders are, but they are made of SMC not fiberglass, so I am wondering what to use for those as well. So theres a good amount of small things left to do but most of the big stuff is done. I will post more pictures from before and more of the progress I make. If anybody has any advice then it is greatly appreciated. Recommendations on body filler, working with smc, and primer are welcome. Thanks.

Welcome to the motley crew of the Flying Dutchmen....

you got lotsa balls, you hired, I got this sick looking vette....

:bump::fishing:

I like what you are doing. Can't wait to see what the beltline removed will look like. What are you doing about the beltline at the hood?

I might move this to Paint, Body and Interior so that more of the paint and body guys see it. They may have some answers to you questions.

Thanks for the enthusiasm guys! The beltline that wraps around the front bumper has already been removed and glassed in. I just didn't upload those pics because the front bumper is pretty ugly looking right now. As I stated before I had to chip out a ton of resin and body filler where they half assed it and failed to use fiberglass! I'm guessing they broke these areas when releasing the bumper from the mold but either way it was def half assed work, so it's a little unsightly right now to say the least. As soon as I find a place where I can work on my car and not get b*tched at I will get the front bumper finished. If youre referring to the bodyline that sits a little higher than the beltline, I am leaving it alone. In the absence of the beltline it should be accentuated giving the car more of the classic stingray look. But
I am also playing with the idea of widening things out for a more stingray look. My only hangups are time, and looking at how ugly the Geiger C4s came out and NOT doing anything like that! I just wish right now I had a place to work on my car. I will have some freetime this week and the weather is hot!

Def like the beltline removed, something Geiger in Germany used to do to most of their cars. I've always liked this:

I like that. Removing the beltline really changes the entire look of that car.

Are the fenders slightly flaired on that?

Not sure, I think they're stock. I've always liked the earlier rear better because it comes in and then out again, the alter rear is exactly the other way around, looking from the side it's < vs. >

I see the OP went through the trouble of changing the rect. lights to the round ones (which look better too IMO), I would have just changed the bumpers. I really like what he's doing, the black vette does look super sleek without the belt line.
I don't think the black one is flared out.

Thanks for the enthusiasm! Yeah, this project has been alot of work so far, but def worth it too. I started this years ago with an idea and at that time I could not find anybody that had pictures of this mod! So thanks for uploading those pics! I found a few other ones on google images just under C4 corvette and by clicking on every single result that came up. In the thumbnail I didn't even realize that it had a beltline delete till I loaded the link! Thank God I finally found a pic of what I'm doing so now the wife doesn't think I'm completely nuts! And yeah, I'm in El Paso, TX where you can literally cook eggs on the ground daily and I wasn't complaining about the heat! I enjoy glassing in the heat because it dries and cures so much faster! Saves alot of time. The only problem is I was working on the car outside and the landlord came up to me when I was spraying primer on the left door and said in a condesending tone, "What are you doing!?" I said working on my car. Got a note on the door the next day saying I can't work o my car outside in the parking lot. Looked up the fine print in my lease and realized, it does state I can't work on it here! F*CK!!!!! So now I'm looking for a place to work on my own car here in El Paso! I will post more pics when I figure something out!

Oh and I love the way that black vette sits you posted! That's exact same height I want to drop mine to. Anybody know how much of a drop that is? And I wonder where to get a lower kit like that and how much of a pain in the ass that mod is to replace the wedges and lower the vette like that?

You can get a lowering kit from most vendors, it's just a set of longer bolts and wedges. You'll need spring clamps from aluminum though so if you have a 87 and earlier you need to swap them for the later style.

good news. found a place to work on my car. hopefully will be able to get some work done on it this weekend (if it doesn't rain) and of course that means i will be uploading pictures of the progress.

Made alot of progress on the 90' vette beltline delete. Brought it up to a friends body shop in Houston called Impact over holiday block leave. They let me work on it out of the way in an empty area and my buddy provided all the tools, tips, know how, and countless hours of labor!!! We did a ton of work and it looks much better, but we only had enough time to get one layer of primer down, not paint it as we had hoped to. The bodywork isn't perfect but what we did we did right, and now after working day in and day out for 2 straight weeks I feel confident that I can knock out the rest on my own with some help from my knowledgeable friend who grew up in a bodyshop and a few tools. Here's the progress so far. Enjoy. And the next major step of this project will be designing a custom front bumper so if anybody has any ideas and can render them via photoshop or whatnot I would be very grateful. Once again, enjoy!
