Just curious if there's any OEM applications that use an aluminum pump. I put a lighter weight iron pump on the car a couple years ago, but if there's something even lighter off a wrecked car that I can get for a modest price I'd like to look into it.

Thanks.

Some GM type II pumps are aluminum C4 corvettes, LS engines...blablabla

Been checking the usual sites looking for a (used) later p/s pump, but have been striking out so far. I'm trying to see what shaft size they use as I would need to transplant a v-belt pulley onto the pump, assuming the weight difference makes the purchase price palatable.

edit: Shaft size .663"

I guess you are limited as to type of drive, and you can't convert to serp drive as a result?? my only comment is that I went '88-91?' vette drive when I got the car in '95, and noticed the PS pump looked very similar to the old OEM iron one, but of course did not have that built in reservoir....

I dunno if it would fit over the later pump or not, :shocking:

I'm keeping the v-belt setup as it lets me mount the accessories further back. It seems every serpentine type crank pulley I've seen is about 3 or 4 inches deep, requiring everything to be pushed ahead to match up.

My stock as a stove, numbers matching L48 '72 , I removed all the V belt shit and went '88-91 vette drive, out of Carlisle Vette meet parts....about 150 bux total at the time, I just went with the stock plastic fluid tank, had it mounted on the front main cross support, today it sets under the master cylinder....it had to do with the switch to the Spal fans, I think....:shocking: after 18 years of street driven modifications, can't remember EVERY detail....:harhar::beer:
