Oil Pressure Sending Unit Block Off

The dash is having to come out of my 72 and I need to block off the oil pressure sending unit so I can run the car while the gauges are out.

If I block it off at the motor, I need to know the thread pitch and size of the bolt I need to screw into the block in place of the sending unit.

I could also block it off with some sort of "cap" or "plug" at the end of the fitting that screws into the back of the gauge, but I need to know the thread pitch of that as well (I'd prefer to do it this way because the sending unit on top of the motor looks impossible to get to).

Does anybody have these specs. I though this would probably be fairly standard sized stuff and easy to find, but apparently not...

1/8" NPT on the block. The other end is a compession fitting, not sure if they make a cap for that. You could buy a cheap oil gage to cap that end and monitor pressure.

If the line to the oil pressure gauge is the typical white plastic type, I would recommend you replace it while you have things apart. These lines have a habit of breaking when they get some age on them and spraying oil inside your car (or, if you get lucky, in the engine compartment). Auto Meter makes a stainless braided line. I used a stainless braided nitrous hose and some fittings. There are other options.

As far as running the car, you could always just reconnect the hose to the existing oil pressure gauge and tie it up out of the way.

Good luck.
