Oops

WTF is SO different about LUG NUTX from wheel to wheel that the whole damn thing comes off???

must be a Mercedes with that stupid crap using BOLTS to hold the wheel on....saw one some years ago helping a buddy work on it....

I just laughed my ASS off....talk about STUPID, that's it....gotta be something similar....

a shank nut can be used and a taper nut can be used, they not right, but 3-4 of them MIN per wheel coming off????

BULLSHIT.....

:harhar:

Or even these...

Probably factory wheels using shanked nuts and after market tapered seat ones, they don't mix and with the tapered ones the wheels will be loose and the studs will break. Same for shanked bolts/tapered head bolts. The wheel bolts may seem like a stupid idea but it really is not if you have a lowered car with wide wheels that tuck tight into the wheel well, with studs you won't be able to get the wheel off.

I have to say overall design sux then, as it's almost impossible for a strong mechanic to hold the wheel and position it to take the bolt without cross threading, much less a motorist on roadside....I could just see some chick trying to do that....fat chance....

My VW Beetle I had years ago had wheel bolts. Bit of a pain to change wheels but nothing outrageous. Lifting one of the 285 Yokohama/rim onto one of my old "street machines" was a damn sight harder...

Mercs, bimmers...they are hubcentric, the wheel won't fall off. Many others also have a set of dowels to hang the wheel on, the back of the rim has a slot or hole to mate with the dowel.

HUM....that Merc on the lift that evening....there was absolutely nothing to hole the wheel in any way....took two of us to do a simple one man job...

I remember looking at other design aspects, and just shook my head and walked away muttering....too many car since then...can't remember them all, but that thing with the wheel bolts, and that weird suspension setup....

yup, that is memorable....:gurney:
