At one point in the last couple years I was playing with putting a smog pump on the 355 roller engine here.....and I could get as much as 4-8" of vacuum in the engine sump, but my issue was about the oil that was picked up in the system, never got to any catch can and then return lines to the oil pan, then what to do with the final output of the system?? into the exhaust pipes, but where??

So I reverted to the stock PCV system, with a higher flow valve...I think Bird/Jeff said the letter F on the bottom was the higher flow unit....

at any rate, which is the better system?? think I maybe pick up on running that sump under a vacuum, later on when painting is done....so any suggestions on how to finish it out??

If you're running low tension 1/16 rings and needing every last teeny bit of horseypower, then maybe a vacuum pump. Even that's going to be a trade-off. How much HP will you gain compared with what it takes to drive the pump?

FWIW- Ol' Red has the 1/16 low tension rings- and the stock PCV system. No oil consumption or blow-by problems at all.
