Popping and spiting through carb while running after dizzy install

I read the other popping post and did not see anything that would specifically help me other than I may have a lean condition. Here is the thing. Other than the vapor lock issue I mentioned in the other thread the car was running good with no popping and idled at 800 with a bid solid cam. After reinstallng the dizzy from replacing the intake gasket I am getting really loud popping and back fires from both carb and side pipe. The car did fire right up and it ran smooth to start for maybe 30 seconds. I have advanced the dizzy about as far as I can. What's next to try?

Thanks
Wade

Did you set the timing to 36 or whatever it was before? Maybe a lean condition caused by a vacuum leak around the intake?

I did not stay with it long enough to get a timing light on it. I doubt or at least I want to beleive that I took the proper care in sealing the intake. Someone on another forum said I should have dropped the dizzy in at 12* BTDC that no engine will like dropping it in with the marks dead on. After thinking about it I think I dropped it in at 8* BTDC when I build the motor.

I would verify that your rotor is pointing to #1 (or about 12BTDC) at TDC compression stroke. Too far retarded might cause backfire/spitting.
